We are going to Maui in Feb. and are planning to book the 4 Seasons but wondered if the Mtn view was ok? Has anyone stayed in one and if so, is it just as nice or really worth double the price to stay in an Ocean Front. Also do they ever do upgrades at check in?

I%26#39;d pass on mountain view and opt for an ocean view, not ocean front, room. they sometimes give upgrades, but you can%26#39;t depend on it. some of the mt view rooms look over parking lots and roads - not what you%26#39;re coming all the way from winnipeg to see!

We stayed in a Garden View room and loved it. I believe all the rooms are basically the same, except for the views. Having said that,if you book a Mountain View room, you really don%26#39;t want to take the chance of having your room service breakfast overlooking the parking lot! I wouldn%26#39;t spend the money on Oceanfront, but Oceanview or Garden View would not disappoint you in anyway. According to their literature, they will NOT upgrade from a Mountain View room, so if you book a Garden View, you may get upgraded (if not, it%26#39;s still a great room and view). Either way, you will LOVE the hotel and everything in it is just perfect. Having visited Hawaii many times and stayed in many fine hotels, If I was asked to choose staying at the Four Seasons Maui in a Mountain View room, or another hotel on Maui in a deluxe room........no choice.....Four Seasons.

I would rather stay on a less impressive property but be right on the ocean than spend big bucks for a small room facing the mountains. While the mountains are beautiful there is nothing like sitting on your lanai watching the sunset over the ocean or watching the early morning outriggers go by.
Hula40- I think you misunderstand me, of course Oceanfront would be the ideal. I%26#39;m just suggesting the Four Seasons has , first, not just rooms but rather mini suites with a sleeping area and sitting/tv area and coffee bar/dressing area and a bathroom (that would practically rent out as an entire apartment in NYC) and second, service to die for. Everything you want is anticipated and you%26#39;re not nickled and dimed to death for it- it%26#39;s just there. Also, the views from the restaurants, lobby, pool and cabanas (free), (where they spritz you with Evian water should it get too warm in the sun) etc, etc.
The Four Seasons just knows how to run a hotel, and if you don%26#39;t want to spend the big bucks for the Oceanfront or Oceanview, you are getting all the same comfort in your room only when you go out to your lanai, you face a beautiful garden setting and are knocked out by the fragrance. You can then walk to the swinging bench ten feet away and watch the moon over the ocean. Anyway, it certainly was worth a few hundred dollars a night to me...just my opinion.

justrav, I totally understand your point however, I like to point out to people who have never been to Maui before that there are many options besides resorts. Many times we have met people who ask us about the condos we%26#39;re are stayng in because they are in a hotel and didn%26#39;t realize that were many beautiful units oceanfront. So many people spend hundreds of $$$ to stay in mountain view rooms without an oceanview. Of course there is no room service etc. I do realize that.
I have actually been to Maui before and stayed at the Rennaissance. I thought for a special anniversary it would be nice to have the service.
We have stayed at the four seasons twice, in Oct 2003 %26amp; Oct 2004. Both times we booked a garden view room, with the 5th night free package. The first trip, our room overlooked a small grassy area %26amp; garden. The room was large, with a huge bathroom, and we were very happy with our choice.
The second trip, we were upgraded to a suite! We had two bathrooms, a living room/dining room area, and two lanai%26#39;s! Again, the bathroom was huge, and we had a separate dressing area. We are not sure why we got the upgrade, but we didn%26#39;t question it!
wow an upgrade without asking. What time of year was that jbilliin? We were tempted to get a mountain view and hope for an upgrade but I don%26#39;t know if we%26#39;ll do that, after hearing they rarely do free upgrades.
We just got back from the Four Seasons last night. We had booked a partial ocean view, and were upgraded to an executive suite partial ocean view, without even asking. Also, I had told them it was our 20th anniversary, and when we got back to our room after wandering around the first day, we had a tray with different pineapple snacks, champagne, and pineapple lemonade with hand written happy anniversary cards waiting for us. Everything was wonderful!!
