I am having a VERY difficult time decideing where to stay on the big island. I have never been there. I am looking at condos in the Kona area. Does anyone have any suggestiosn. I would love to have a good close ocean view if possible? I have looked on web at Keauhou Gardens and Sea Village both look good. Anyone know anthing about these?
condosSea Vilage is an old wooden building that is showing its age. It does have a small pool and a good ocean view... nost units have no Air/Con.
The Keauhou Gardens is better...just a little
The best condos in my opinion ( I drive by them each day) Kona by the Sea, Magic Sands . The rest are ok it is just my standards are such. Many are across the street from beach access.... and the grounds congested and not great. It is an old area where many condos were built in the 60%26#39;s
get a concrete building if you dont want to share your room with critters...
condoshawaiiden,
would we be better off farthur up the coast. I found a fairly good deal at the Fairway Villas at Waikola beach resort?
I just hate to book something that looks so good on the website and be disappointed when I get there. Would rather spend a bit more money.
Thanks for your input.
Aloha!
If you are willing to go up the coast, I think the ResortQuest Waikoloa Villas are the nicest you can find for the price! They are NEW and very well maintained! Plus, there is an aura of privacy about them. Down Kona way, did you look at the Holua resort? It is very nice but not oceanfront, and not directly in Kona...but very nice units!

is it the Holua Resort At The Mauna loa you are talking about?
When are you going? How long will you be there? We have stayed several places on the Kona side, but our hands-down favorite is (as Hawaii Dan suggested) Kona Magic Sands, www.magicsands.com. The reason I asked the above questions is they have a minimum stay and the longer you stay the cheaper it is. We usually pay around $100 per night. If you go in the winter months, the beach next to the unit disappears, thus the name Disappearing Sands.

Mauna loa are a group of closely built time shares about 1.5 miles from the nearest beach and in a residential area....near the Sheraton about 1/2 mile away..... WHile well built and maintained it is not a premier property and they are very interested in selling you a unit....
For quality look for a condo that either owns all its units or has full- owners units... not interval. The furnishings are better and up-kep is better on somthing that you own not share.

I don%26#39;t think that is always true. Holua resort is rated #4 of 31 properties in the Kailua-Kona area here on Trip Advisor.

we are going april 3rd for 10 days
Hawaiidan, does Disappearing Sands beach come back by April? Coloradotraveller, are you going to stay the whole 10 days on BI and in one condo? If so, I think you could get a really good rate wherever you go. Have you checked out the Magic Sands yet? What did you think of it? That one picture on their website is awesome and shows just how close you are from the ocean. It%26#39;s wonderful!!!
