What to Pack for Hawaii ?

First time in Hawaii and not sure what to pack!! Will be going to the Hilton on the Big Island July 2-8 and then the 4 Seasons on Maui for 5 days. Are shorts, capris and tanks enough or do we need some fancier clothes? Also, is there any need for warmer clothes? Thanks for any help. Shar

What to Pack for Hawaii ?

Based on what I%26#39;ve read:

If you are planning to go upcountry, you will definitely want some warm layers. Especially if you go to Volcano National Park (Big Island) or Haleakala summit (Maui).

Warm clothes will only be necessary if you plan on going to Haleakala. If you only plan to go as far upcountry as maybe Kula or Keokea, then you%26#39;ll be fine in shorts and a tank top.

Otherwise capris, shorts, tank tops, bathing suits, pareaus are all you%26#39;ll need. If you plan on going to some of the nicer restaurants you can still just use a simple sundress, dockers, aloha shirts and such. It%26#39;s very casual.

Thanks for the input. Nice to know we can go casual since that%26#39;s our style anyway!! And we can skip the warmer clothes I think....can always buy a sweatshirt etc. if need be. Thanks again!

I took the above plus a nice sun dress and had actually overpacked. Didn%26#39;t need fancy clothes at all...Have a great time!

I way overpacked and didnt need any of the nice pants and capris I packed. Lived in swim suit and cover up during the day and shorts and comfortable tshirts or linen blouses at night. BUT, since you mentioned you will be staying at the Four Seasons, you might have a different situation. It seems more formal there and I know they have several expensive restaurants on site. When we shopped in that area folks were in ';dressy resort wear';. I took my favorite white sheer cotton bohemian skirt and it was more than nice enough for nice restaurants and easy to pack. But I stayed in a condo and you just dont have to dress for the elevator! ;- )

Thanks, JEd, Maui and Lougee any and all help is greatly appreciated!........ Maui - may be staying at the 4 Seasons...but they ain%26#39;t seen nothin%26#39; like us. We will dress exactly how WE want too!!! LOL. I always overpack, but am going to try not to this time. One nice outfit should do. Who cares anyway?? Celebrating 15th anniversary and first trip ever without our son!!... Not likley I will ever run into any of the people we might meet again so...who cares what I wear right? ...(as long as my butt is covered!!!) Thanks again-Shar

hawaiidreaming, that%26#39;s the spirit! I would like to add a second swimsuit to lougee%26#39;s list; it is a backup so that if one suit is still wet you have a dry one to put on.

Thanks Yung....had already thought about that ...nothing worse than a damp suit!!

And thanks Lougee...it%26#39;s a great list... I don%26#39;t care what you do with the blue socks...just as long as the athletic ones are for your sneakers and not your sandals!!!! Whan are you going? And hope you have a great trip!
