Is this a reputable way in which to book a condo??? I am heading off to Maui in September for a wedding. I want to make the most of my money and it is looking as if Condo%26#39;s are the way to go..... Are there other sights that people recommend??
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi marathongirl- Any chance that you are going in Sept for the Maui marathon? We are and had I been to this forum before I made my reservations I would have book things differently.

marathon: after staying in a resort, hotel, a local ohana unit and a condo, I would definitely recommend a condo. all the others were great but the condo offered the best of all worlds. it had everything we could need to be comfortable. I haven%26#39;t stayed there yet but I am investigating Sugar Beach condos in Maui myself as it has great reviews, for most of the owners units, and it is quiet and on the beach. Ali%26#39;i resorts website has some of the units, as does vrbo.com. some on the forum don%26#39;t rent through the owners as they said you have little recourse if you get there and it isn%26#39;t what you thought it would be. I had absolutely no problems renting through an owner on the big island, I had contact numbers if anything was wrong (there wasn%26#39;t) and felt totally comfortable with my arrangements. do a search on the bar above for Sugar Beach and read their reviews, great!
If you haven%26#39;t been to Maui before, check out the Iao Needle valley, and the Haleakala mountain sunrise is fantastic for another trip. if you aren%26#39;t a morning person, then going to the mountain anytime is a treat anyway. Paia is a small town that I loved to explore and past it on the same road is Ho%26#39;okipa point where you can pull off, park and watch surfers and windsurfers in some of the best waves I have ever seen.
I won%26#39;t go into detail about where to eat except recommending the Fish Market in Paia, for an ono burger. incredible.
you can do a search again for snorkeling spots and great beaches. there is lots of info on these forums for a first timer. enjoy!
No, is that the second week of the month??? I did see something about that and thought that it would be neat to be there for that....but I am flying in on the 22nd.. I am running Chicago in the fall It will be my 2nd marathon (I did London in 2004). Thank goodness my friends wedding is during a taper week!!! As it is, I will have to do a bit of running while I am there. I HATE running when it is hot...and I really been tested already with the HOT weather in Chicago so far this summer!
I am ClUELESS as to where to stay. I was in Maui 5 years ago with a friend....and I was quite spoiled. It was a company trip and we were at the Grand Wailea for free... Unfortunately, REALITY is hitting me now that I am paying for a trip myself and I am trying to figure out how to pay for it all and make the most of my trip..
Marathongirl- The Maui marathon is Sept 18th, we are running the half and it%26#39;s our first one. I saw it in runners world as the most scenic and thought it would be a great first run.
Renting from owner can be a great way to go. I highly recommend speaking to the person over the phone, make sure you see interior photos, and if all your questions are not answered willingly then look at another owners unit.
Also try Mauiownercondos.com for beautiful units. Condos are an excellent way to go in Hawaii. A good one will come fully loaded with lots of extras that you wouldn%26#39;t get in a hotel.
I was nervous the first time I rented by owner but I do it all the time now and we have had some wonderful accomodations! These owners do not pay a property manager at least 20% of their rental income to book reservations for them so that is why they are able to rent for less.
marathon: ah, you are not a firsttimer, then you know some of the great things to do there. and since you are a runner, you probably have already done a mountain run. I didn%26#39;t tell you anything you didn%26#39;t already know! have a great time. smile
Hi Marathongirl! My husband and I are going to be on Maui in August. This is our first time to Maui and it was also our first time using vrbo.com. We ended up renting a small cottage that I found through vrbo.com. Here is the website: mauihillsidecottage.com. After months of research, we decided on the cute home. I contacted previous renters and everyone raved about it, so my advice to you is if you find a place, I don%26#39;t think it would be too much to ask for testimonials. A lot of the listings on the vrbo.com have a link for that information. Good luck!
