Going to Maui and Kauai in February. Have been checking websites for deals on car rental. Have checked Dollar and they seem very high - 5 days on Maui for $450 for a full size care. Any advice on car rental agencies? Also, are they all in the airport or do you need to take a shuttle to get the car?

They all have booths at the airport (near baggage claim). And then you catch a shuttle to actually go get your car.

Don%26#39;t know if this works all the time but I got a good deal less than two weeks before we left. I checked all the usual vendors every day or so and one of the vendor%26#39;s (Alamo) rate dropped radically. I jumped on it and cancelled my previous reservation with another agency. I suspect they were underbooked and playing ';catch up';.
Do check with more than one agency.
Just rented a mid-size in Maui for $110 for 4 days -- all taxes included. No fee for an extra driver -- went through discounthawaiicarrental.com. GREAT experience -- they are basically a reseller/discounter. The car ended up being from Thrifty -- and everything went perfectly. I would highly recommend using this company.
Otherwise, I have also had good luck with Hotwire and Priceline. $450 sounds WAY too expensive. Also, consider a midsize ... sometimes one type of car is way more expensive than another, but you can upgrade for just a little more or find free upgrade coupons online or through your airline, credit card, or AAA.
!0 days ago I booked a midsize car for 14 days through Priceline for $386. That price includes all taxes and fees but i dont take their insurance. It turned out to be Alamo. I booked the second and third week in January!
Try going to the Costco website and using their %26#39;travel%26#39; section and go to the rental car category. We used Budget thru the Costco website. We find they usually have the best deals. If you don%26#39;t have a Costco membership, try the Orbitz website. They usually have reasonable rates as well. Good luck...
I have had good luck with expedia.com and travelocity. If you have AAA or AARP membership, try the individual car company sites.
Thanks for all you advice. Will check on the rates and sites you suggested. Can%26#39;t wait to go - it has 30 years since we have been in Hawaii!
I also used discounthawaiicarrental.com and think we ended up with a pretty nice full size (Grand Prix) from Alamo or similar for about $350.00 for 8 nights.
