Trip Review: Oahu

We were visiting 3 islands and Oahu was the first of the three.

It is definately not what I was thinking of when I thought Hawaii, but I had been warned it was the big city.

We stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village and were upgraded to a suite due to my husbands Diamond status with Hilton. It was a lovely hotel, but HUGE! Probably would have enjoyed it more with a longer stay.

Upon our arrival we went to Dukes. It was difficult to find and parking was a bugga, but we ate at the Barefoot Bar and didn%26#39;t have to wait at all for a seat. A good and timely dinner after our long flight.

Our first morning we were up early and arrived at Pearl Harbor by 7:15. We were in the third group, 8:15 tour, but that gave us time to go through the museum and outside. I would highly recommend the $5 audio tour!

After we headed over to the Bowfin and toured on our own. I thought it was very interesting. I had never been through a sub before. Husband really enjoyed it.

Then over to the USS Missouri and again toured on our own. Probably could have gotten a little more out of it with a guided tour, but still enjoyed. Ate lunch on the boat, nothing great, but it was food.

Then off to the PCC. We both enjoyed the experience, but didn%26#39;t love it. It took us a while to understand that the whole point was to go see the shows at the different places portrayed. After that we enjoyed the shows that were put on. The canoe show was good, but try not to sit on the side with the sun blaring! The luau was just okay, but we really enjoyed the Horizons show.

Day 2 - Enjoyed breakfast on the Hilton due to our HHonors status and watched the penguins get fed.

Then off to the North Shore. We both agreed that the North Shore was our favorite part of Oahu. We went and walked on the beach at Turtle Bay. Then to Ted%26#39;s Bakery for a cookie and soda. Tried to spot turtles where we were told they hang out (was also noted in Oahu Revealed) but had no luck. Then off to Matsumotos where we loved the shave ice.

Then we drove back to Waikiki and drove up Diamond Head and then on to Tantulus drive. We really enjoyed the drive and the overlook of Waikiki.

Then we were off to the airport for the Big Island.

If you have any questions feel free to ask!

Trip Review: Oahu

We are heading over to the USS Missouri after the Arizona/Bowfin and my mom is diabetic. We did not want to have to leave the area to eat and that is great to know they sold food on the Missouri. What kind of things did they have..Burgers, fries, sandwiches, salads????? Thank you

MISNOWBUNNY - there is also food available at the Bowfin - very limited menu.

Thanks for the tip. Will make mom very happy.

Hi there! Do you recommend renting a car in Oauhu? I%26#39;m going there for my honeymoon and we aren%26#39;t sure if we will rent a car? We are going to Big Island and Kaui and are going to be renting a car/jeep. Just thought we could save a little cash by not renting in Oauhu. Please let me know your thoughts! Thanks in advance...

Shine, if you have more than a couple of days on Oahu and you want to see more than just Waikiki, I%26#39;d recommend renting a car.

I would definately recommend renting a car on Oahu. It is a busy busy area, and if you want out of Waikiki I would want my own transportation. The North Shore was one of our favorite things and I%26#39;m not sure if there is any other form of transportation there or not, but you definately could not do it at your own pace.

As to food on the USS Missouri I had a cheeseburger and my husband had roast beef. There were a couple other meal choices also. It was nothing to write home about, but the right timing. There is a little food court thingy outside of the bowfin also. I didn%26#39;t really look around too much, but I know they had a hot dog stand, ice cream, I think maybe pizza?

Hope that helps!
