Wheelchair Accessible Maui?

I%26#39;m traveling with my family to Maui in the next 2 weeks. There are 6 of us, including my adult sister who%26#39;s bringing her electric wheelchair. We already have the accomodations, accessible van rental, beach wheelchair, and shower chair rented. We are, however, looking for good tips on beaches, trails, parks, and other activities for our 10-day stay. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated! Thanks.

Wheelchair Accessible Maui?

Depends on where you are staying. We brought our mother to Maui just before she died of cancer. At that point she was wheelchair bound. We stayed in Kaanapali so we could take her for walks along the long beach path there and it was easy to go from hotel to hotel and to all the shops with her in her chair. There is a similar beach bath along the hotels at Wailea.

The Heritage gardens on the left side as you head toward the Iao needle/valley has a picnic area. I remember it being quite wheelchair accessible (not sure about the restrooms though...or even if they have any?).

The iao needle/valley is wheelchair accessible to a point. There is a steep set of stairs that goes to an observation area. However, much *can* be seen without climbing up there (including the needle). I do believe their restrooms here are wheelchair accessible.

You would be able to get a wheelchair to the beach at Kapalua easily, and there is a grassy area along the beach with trees where she could park and watch the activities. Ka anapali would work too - lots to see and do along the beach walk there.

The park areas listed above would be very pretty (Heritage park and Iao Needle). The aquariaum at Maalea Harbor is nice, accessible and would allow her to see the marine life she will miss if she can%26#39;t snorkel, including a great turtle exhibit up close and lots of whale info.
