I am flying from Boston to Honolulu and arriving in HNL at 11pm local time. I will be alone--friends already there but unable to pick me up--and am worried about how to get to my hotel. I haven%26#39;t picked a hotel yet. I am really worried about how I can get to my hotel safely and quickly. It will be 5am, I think, Boston time. I hope you all have some ideas as this is my biggest worry about what should be a great trip.
Arriving late at night
First, if your friends have a car I would ask them to please come get me. The HNL airport is very easy to maneuver in a car ... but if not, then I would take a taxi or an airport shuttle. Most of the transportation services should run until the last flights of the night are in. It%26#39;s not too far from Waikiki, if that%26#39;s where you are staying ... so you%26#39;ll be fine. Probably $30 or so for a cab.
Arriving late at night
aloha... Once, after a series of delays (on a non-stop flight), I arrived at HNL airport at 130 am HST! After waiting for my lugguage, I took the Waikiki shuttle, and after some stops for other travellers, I finally checked in my hotel (in Waikiki) at 230am (-%26gt;530am PDT)!
The shuttle pick-up area is well lit, just outside the
baggage claim. There is lots of security. Or you can take a taxi, again, just outside the baggage claim.
Generally, the Airport/Waikiki shuttle will run until the last flight arrives (and empties). The shuttle will drop you off right by the front entrance of your hotel. The driver will unload your lugguage and then you can check-in to your hotel. You shouldn%26#39;t have any problems.
Thanks for those ideas. My friends will not have a car and should be asleep before I arrive! Does the shuttle stop at every hotel? Are the taxis safe?--some cities have rogue drivers and they are not safe. Do individual hotels have pick-up services? I went to Hawaii a very long time ago and my hotel had its own tram for guests. Thanks!
Ask your travel agent to book you a pick up (hotel transfer). V.I.P.Aloha or another one will meet you at the airport with a sign and collect your bags and deliver you to your hetel in Waikiki. They will take you back for the return flight as well. It is about $30(Canadian)return. They stop at other hotels on the way. If you are lucky, there may be only a couple of stops.
aloha... Oh yes, I did arrange for an Airport Transfer from the airport to my Waikiki hotel on my first trip to Hawaii! Go back to your travel agent and ask for an Airport Transfer, which may or may not include a lei greeting. The cost is ~$30, the approximate of the taxi fare from the Airport to your Waikiki hotel. A person will hold up a sign/card with your name on it at the baggage claim. After picking up your baggage (and showing your receipt to the Airport Agent), you will be escorted to a private coach. You may have to wait for a few other guests. The coach will drop off people according to their hotels. The hotels at the outlying areas of Waikiki are first, like the Ambassador, Pacific Monarch. And the coach will work its way to the central part of Waikiki, like the Sheraton Waikiki, the Royal Hawaiian (the ';Pink Palace';). The coach will drop you off right at the front entrance of your hotel. The trip should be a hour or so (Airport to Waikiki is min. 1/2 hour and allowing time for drop-offs... about a hour). Mahalo.
No, most of the individual hotels (of Waikiki) do not have private shuttles from the Airport.
i paid $9 a person in Dec at the airport, called reliable shuttle, and that was round trip price... buyer beware, hawaii in general is very expensive
Their are taxis at the airport when you arrive, the cost is about 25-30 dollars. The ride late at night takes about 25 minutes, the shuttle almost 2 hours depending on how many stops they make. Their are several taxi companies that offer discounts by pre-arranged appointment and will have a taxi waiting for you when you arrive. Do a web search for Honolulu airport taxis and you will come up with a few choices.
Are taxis in Honolulu licensed etc.? And how do you know if a particular cab is licensed or not? Sorry to belabor the point but women alone are especially vulnerable to crime in this type of situation.
i know what you mean, july 2004 my 2 kids and i took our first trip to honolulu and we arrived at 10:45 p.m. i had never traveled before own my own with my 2 kids. i had pre-arranged a lei greeting transfer and so glad i did. it took about 45min to 1hr to drop us off at our hotel ,they do drop you off right up front and help you with your bags. you can book this through travelocity and expedia, i think it is worth the money specially since you are getting there so late and alone. have fun and be safe.
