Beach Near Kona Airport?

On our way home from the Big Island, we have a lengthy layover in Kona, arriving from Hilo at 8:30 a.m. until our flight leaves at 2:00 p.m. Can we easily take a taxi to the beach from the airport?

Yes but depending on where you go it might be tough to get back..... figure you can get a Taxi at 0900....take 20 min to get to the nearest, ';,.Old Airport Beach';. Cost will be about $20 each way for 2.

OR:

Go north to the Marriott and A bay cost $50 each way and 30 min each way for 2.. Here you will have a hotel to get a taxi to return.

So figure you get there by 09:45 .. you can spend 3.5 hours at the beach.

It is going to be cheaper to rent a car....

Any suggestions for a cheap rental car, or other ideas on how to spend the layover? This will be at the end of a 10-day trip to the Big Island, and we will be spending 2 nights during the trip in Kona.

since you have no luggage.....get anything whith wheels.......

When you are in Kona check out stuff to see on return.....A fast trip to Place of refuge might be good.....but very short time there.. allow 2.5 hours driving rt to it

We%26#39;ll definitely be going there before then, the friend we%26#39;re staying with works there! But any other suggestions would be appreciated. Do you know anything about Kona Hanu Divers? I bought a 2 for 1 certificate for them from ebay, and hope they%26#39;re a decent outfit...

they ae a very good outfit.....I was in their store and they impressed me..... Alsoo their boat is nice too

By the way you can get cupons for them in the local phone book......for free. 15%.

...just got back...the water was a bit rough the last 2 days (most beaches closed)...but we went to beach down the road by the energy lab with the big solar panels (on right side going from airport to Kona)...across the street from chevron station on left...it was the only one we could find that day to sit on the beach and it was amazing with huge waves crashing into the rocks with a protected beach area in front and a nice sandy area to sit...the best part is that it is maybe 5 minutes from airport and the planes take off right in front of you
