Maui first time with teenagers

Looking for a place to stay with wife, and two teenage girls (13/16). Beach and pool equally important. Snorkeling, other water sports. Any suggestions?

Maui first time with teenagers

Aloha!

If you budget is not limited, I would try to stay on Kaanapali Beach with two teenage girls. You can get a 1 bedroom 2 bath condo at the Whaler which is smack dab in the middle of Kaanapali Beach...right next door to Whaler%26#39;s Village with shops and restaurants that the girls can explore on their own. Plus, your daughters will find plenty of teens in this area, and the beach is pretty good. Whaler%26#39;s pool is nothing fancy, but there is SO much else to do right there that the teens might forget about the pool! You might also try two hotel rooms at the Hyatt or Westin...a single hotel room with two teens might be a bad idea.

Definitely Kaanapali Beach. We like the Kaanapali Beach Hotel the best (right next to the Whaler Condos). Less expensive and less commercial. Sheraton is on the other side - lots of good snorkeling at black rock. Try geminicharters.com - go on the picnic snorkel sail.

We have two daughters - 11 and 16 - and stay at Lahaina Shores in Lahaina - an %26#39;older%26#39; hotel with reasonably low prices (for Maui),true ocean views, plus kitchenette, washers/dryers in rooms, etc. We go into Lahaina each day for dinner, shopping, etc. We do go a couple times to Kaanapali for the beach - they love the crowds.

Girls definitely like different activities than we would choose on our own, or what boys would choose.

Our 11 year old daughter really likes to go through oysters for pearls at Hilo Hatties in Lahaina. The ladies behind the counter really seem to like doing this (I can%26#39;t imagine how many times a day they do this!). Of course, we usually get a pearl(s), because then we spend $ for mounting the pearl(s) in a ring or ear rings. Sure beats tee shirts, as far as our daughter is concerned.

We have a whole lot of activities that we do with our girls at http://www.lahaina-family-vacation.com.

Our kids enjoyed having a boogie board (yes Bud, we lug them back and forth to Maui, just as some folks take their golf clubs) and took surfing lessons last summer and really liked them. I agree that Kaanapali is a good area for teens. Kihei has lots of shops walking distance to condos too, and decent beaches.

I am curious about Lahaina family - your website looks like a commerical one - do you have interest in the businesses listed?

Hello Chico Girl:

This is primarily a project for our two daughters to figure out web stuff, and learn about writing and graphics. (The pages are pretty simplistic!)

No, we don%26#39;t have any interest or financial gain from any of the businesses we list. They are just representative samples. Most businesses there would not exist for long if they were not doing a good job. So what we are trying to do is help visitors realize what they are looking for, and then match up with that.

For example, if you ask about luaus on the forums here, you will get posts that have negative and positive feedback for the same luau. What really happened, was that the person selecting the luau didn%26#39;t realize how to select a luau that matched their expectations and need!
