When a lone parent is traveling with his/her child internationally, it is generally necessary for solo parents traveling w/kids to carry paperwork indicating that it%26#39;s all good to take that child out of the country (ie - you have to have proof of full legal custody, a notarized letter of consent from the non-travelling parent, etc.).
It just occurred to me to wonder whether there is any reason for me to take any kind of paperwork for my kids with me to Hawaii when we travel there in 12 (hopefully short) days (besides health insurance cards); it will be just myself and my 2 kids travelling. Hawaii is within the US, so I figure the answer is probably ';no'; but I%26#39;d sure appreciate someone confirming this for me. Does anyone at the airport, going or returning, ask for such a thing?
Forgive me if this seems to be a stupid question... I just wanna make sure I have all my bases covered! Thanks!
paperwork needed for kids traveling with one parent?
I%26#39;ve been travelling w/my nephew for the last eight yrs and no one has ever asked me anything---and he has a different last name! Insurance cards are a good idea just in case tho. I have a letter from my mom (his legal guardian) that I am allowed to have him treated etc but that%26#39;s only because he isn%26#39;t mine. You shouldn%26#39;t have that problem.
Since you aren%26#39;t travelling out of the country, you shouldn%26#39;t have problems. (I do know someone who took her daughter to Tahiti and had to have the dads permission--but that%26#39;s international travel. ) You could carry a note just in case and for peace of mind. One piece of paper shouldn%26#39;t add to much weight to a carry on bag! lol.

paperwork needed for kids traveling with one parent?I%26#39; ve traveled with my kids to Europe a couple of times and never had a problem with not having consent from the non-travelling parent. Even when we had an emergency and had to have medical treatment.
