Snorkelling trip recommendations

I am coming to Maui for the first time on 5th July (can%26#39;t wait!!). I really fancy going on a snorkelling trip to Molokini. Anyone got any suggestions of which company i should book with. I%26#39;m a strong swimmer but my partners not so good so any tips would be appreciated. Also should i book this now before i come or will it be okay to book when i get there. Thanks in advance for your help. (We will be staying in Kihei). Diane

I really suggest taking a Rafting Adventure trip to Lanai for the Snorkeling. The snorkeling is 10 times better than Molokini in my opinion. If your partner is not a strong swimmer, some of it may be difficult for him/her. You generally get 3 spots to snorkel around Lanai and at least one is usually calm waters.

The waters inside Molokini, however, are usually always calm, which is why it is such a popular destination. Just make sure not to get to close to the esge of the crater as it can suck you out to the other side. We have always taken Pride of Maui to Molokini, and if you don%26#39;t mind a crowded boat, that is a great one to take, with a water slide on the boat, so when you get to your destination, you can slide into the water. Great fun!!! There are also smaller companies on smaller boats for a more casual atmosphere. I will let the others tell you about those as I have only done Pride to Molokini. Have a great trip!!!

We thought of buying a snorkeling trip as well, but then I talked to many people here and many of them recommended to snorkel off the shore -you can do it at your own pace, you won%26#39;t be surrounded by bunch of strangers and you most likely will see the same fish. And that%26#39;s what we did - we snorkeled from the beach, saw so many coolest fish and even swam with 2 turtles! :-) Great idea is to buy special fish food at local snorkeling rent shop - it%26#39;s amazing!

Just another option :-).

We were in Maui from May 13-May 18. We did the Prince Kuhio and they did not have a great spot at Molokini. But the tour was discounted and the fish fair, so we didn%26#39;t complain too much. I saw a huge tuna and a reef shark. We were also treated to some large turtles. Fairwinds supposedly has a much better mooring spot on the crater. That seems to be the key for Molokini. Most of the tours offer floation help. I am not a strong swimmer either but I felt safe and secure with a noodle. Have a great time!

We did this as well. We went to Black Rock and had a great time. Very easy entry and lots of fish.

Not that I mind giving you suggestions but we have had this question many many times and some really good ideas have been given......so to save you some time, click on my name or Hulas and read the threads with snorkeling in the topic. Hope this helps.

PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS!!! Feeding the fish encourages the aggresive ones and drives out the others. Over the long haul you%26#39;ll no longer get to see as large of a variety. Please enjoy them the way they are. Isn%26#39;t that why you%26#39;re there in the first place?

rich is right. Most of the boats will tell you not to feed the fish, and i think it might even be against the law.

I don%26#39;t know about on Maui, but in Oahu, there are signs everywhere that tell you not to feed the sea-life. Although people do it all the time.

My sister and I were swimming off-shore near the North Shore and all the sudden my sister was pombarded by sea turtles. It looked like one or two were chasing her. I got out of the water and I was laughing as she was trying to as well, but kept falling. And the turtles kept coming. She was absolutely terrified and I was sitting there, tears rolling down my face laughing. Come to find out, people had been feeding them there and they would come up to anyone who was moving their hands in the water. Moral to the story, it%26#39;s wildlife, it should stay that way! Don%26#39;t feed the sea life.

Littlelisa, I wish I could have seen that!

Please don%26#39;t feed the fish, It%26#39;s a great way to attract fish but will ruin the fish population.

We have gone to Molokini twice with Friendly Charters (Lani Kai), it%26#39;s a large cat with room for 70 people but doesn%26#39;t feel crowded at all. They do two stops, continental breakfast and deli lunch. They have a water slide and the crew is great.
