first time travel to Hawaii with todler

My husband myself and our 20 months old son will be travelling to Hawaii in late March from Australia. We are looking at staying in Waikiki and then going to another island. From what i have read it sounds like Waikiki is very busy which we dont mind but we also like to just relax by the pool/beach and take it easy. Any suggestions on Hotels in Waikiki with nice pool areas for kids and other islands to visit that arent to expensive. Also what is the weather like in March?

Part of Waikiki Beach is protected by a breakwater - very good for keiki.

Any of the other islands can be as cheap or as expensive as you make them. Depends on what you want.

Waikiki Banyan is kid friendly and about a 3*. The rooms are one bedroom condos. It has a nice pool/deck area on the 4th floor (I think). There are coin operated washers/dryers on every floor.

The buildings are high rise however (38? floors).

Bonus is parking in the lower level (daily or weekly)--rarity for Waikiki. Not sure which chain owns it now.

My 2003 Oahu trip, 2 weeks in March, had one day of light drizzle.

We also found the Poipu area of Kauai to be very kid friendly. Lots of condos, privately rented or by management companies. We like the Waikomo Stream Villas, which are a walk to the beach, but have a beautiful pool area. Poipu has good kid beaches. East side of Kauai is also kid friendly but we only visited there. When we were there March 2004, the weather seemed better in Poipu (south).

Maui is also great for kids. The Kam beaches in Kihei are wonderful for families. Lots of accommodation choices in the area. We had 2 full days of rain, out of 14 in March 2005. We did other activities quite happily on those rainy days. A rainy day in Hawaii is still a great day!

Perhaps other posts can give you suggestions for the Kaanapali/West Maui and eastern Kauai areas as we haven%26#39;t stayed there.
