Hilton - ocean or garden view?

The difference in price is about $130 per day ( cheapest garden vs. rainbow delux ocean ) Im willing to pay if the view and/or proximity of the room makes this big a difference. Or would one recommend splitting time between the two. Any advice would be very helpful.

Hilton - ocean or garden view?

Hi!

Most of the time we book the cheapest room available. There is always a good chance - especially if you are not traveling during a holiday week that you will be upgraded for free. $130 per night will buy a nice dinner or a lot of souveniers. Yeah - an oceanview is nicer, but you can get your fill just walking on the beach. Have fun!

I agree with the above post. How much time do you really spend in your room? Usually just the early morning and nights. Take your chance on the upgrade.

We are visiting during US spring break, so the hotels are pretty full and an upgrade seems unlikely..... but I think you both make great points. Thanks for the input.

People think that they will automatically be upgraded, which is not true. A lot of folks who write in this forum get upset when they aren%26#39;t. Well you shouldn%26#39;t expect to be.

We were in the Rainbow tower in November. Our first room was a ';partial ocean view'; on the Dukes Lagoon side. It was nice but we took a chance and asked to be moved to the Diamond Head ocean side. Oh my gosh! Our VERY favorite thing was early mornings sitting on the lanai watching the sun come up over Waikiki. It was amazing. I say spend the extra money and go for the Diamond Head ocean view. You will be right over the beach and leave your door open and you will hear the waves all night! Loved it. K

I%26#39;ve stayed at the Hilton every time I%26#39;ve been to Oahu, and every time I%26#39;ve stayed in an oceanfront/oceanview room. Twice I was in the Rainbow Tower on the Diamond Head side; the third time I was upgraded to the Ali%26#39;i Tower even though I had reserved a room in the Rainbow Tower. Well, every room was excellent in terms of view, and I don%26#39;t regret spending the extra for it. I really think part of the answer as to whether you should go garden or ocean view depends on the kind of person you are early in the morning. Are you one who enjoys getting up in the morning and relaxing on the lanai with your coffee....taking in the scenery, and not moving for at least an hour or so? If so, then oceanview is generally the way to go if you can afford it. If you%26#39;re one who gets up and immediately wants to get moving, leave the room and get your day started without delay, then a garden view room would probably be sufficient. Since I am not an early-morning person by nature and prefer to start my day slowly, I almost always opt for oceanview and have been disappointed when I%26#39;ve stayed in a garden view room and have been unable to see at least part of the ocean. Everyone has different preferences though.

The Rainbow tower with the Diamond Head view is simply stunning. Yes, you can walk on the beach but the elevated view from the tower is a great way to start and end the day in my book.

We are staying for 8 days in March and have split our reservation between the 2 rooms. My wife thinks I%26#39;m crazy to make us pack in the middle of the week but the posts make me beleive it will be worth it. Thanks for the input.

We just got back from Hawaii. We stayed at a different hotel, but can tell you that we were absolutely thrilled that we upgraded to an ocean view room. While it didn%26#39;t cost as much as what you may spend, every dollar was worth it. I am a morning person while my husband likes to sleep in. I loved spending the time in between sitting on the lanai and watching the day start. And we would sit on the balcony and watch the sunset after a day at the beach before we got ready for dinner. We felt it was priceless. Have a great vacation.
