Volcanoe National Park

My wife and I are renting a car to go to the Volcanoe National Park. We will only have 4 hrs to get there from Hilo Airport and back again does anyone know if this is enough time?

If you drive stright through from the airport you might be able to get to the end of chain of craters road and back to the airport in 4 hours....but it will be hard to see anything doing it non stop. The park is about a 1/2 hour drive or so from Hilo....

On the avarage, it will take you 1 hour to get the car and drive to the visitor center,

an other 30 min at the center seeng the exhibits then a fast drve around crater rim drive seeing sulphur banks, the crater floor, and missing the THURSTON ( 40 min and Chain of craters road (2 hours) ....anout 1.5 hours....then a drive back tto Hilo via Volcano to the airport another hour to tuurn in the car........

It will be very very fast, it might be better to take a 1 hour helo tour and see more.. then drive to the park and see only the visitor center and return....
