I own the 2nd edition...leaving in 4 weeks....Is it worth buying the 3rd edition?

Hmmm....I think those updates may be to the 3rd edition itself, but the way I read it, it sounded like there were a lot of updates from the 2nd to the 3rd editions.

Might be worthwhile to just check it out at my nearest Barnes and Noble anyway.

After selecting ';Updates';, read the text carefully. There is a link to second page imbedded in one of the paragraphs that you click on to get to the updates that were made to the 2nd Edition to create the 3rd. It lists numerous changes, mostly small restaurants and businesses that no longer are around.

I just checked that out myself. So what you are saying is that the only differences between 2nd and 3rd editions are those in that list? Doesn%26#39;t seem like enough to warrant a new edition, but I guess it lures em in.

I don%26#39;t think they are trying to lure you in to buy an updated version if you have an earlier edition. I think since they provide updates to both 2nd and 3rd editions they are being true to owners of earlier editions while providing the most up to date info for new buyers. I like that if you have an earlier edition and they%26#39;ve updated the online accomodations section that we still get to access the new reviews using our passwords from the earlier edition. Now that%26#39;s a true bargain!!!

Question...do they come out with a new edition each year? Planning a next year, not sure to get one now or not.

Not each year. I purchased my 2nd edition in 2002 or 2003 (can%26#39;t remembe which).

I purchsed the 3rd edition the day it came out as I was leaving for Maui a few days later. We had been reading the 2nd edition and took them both along on the trip. Short answer:

There aren%26#39;t dramatic difference between the two. I had only one change affect any of my plans (review of snorkling boat improved from 2 to 3). If you have the 2nd edition, then I%26#39;d suggest saving yourself a little change and stick with it. There%26#39;s not enough of a difference to make it worth it.
