Kapalua Bay Hotel - Being torn down?

I sadly heard today that the Kapalua Bay hotel was going to be torn down.

I haved heard that Marriot own it and they want to put a three entity resort there. One will be a time share - one a individual ownership building - and them some thing else.

I%26#39;m so heart broken. The Kapalua Bay hotel is so beautiful and airy. It is preservefd on a lovely bay. I hope there will not be high rises and over crowding there as a result.

Has anyone heard about this????

Kapalua Bay Hotel - Being torn down?

I hope that%26#39;s not true. I will be heartbroken, too. I spent my wedding night there, and was married on Kapaulua Beach. I like it fine just the way it is.

Kapalua Bay Hotel - Being torn down?

I just returned this week, and yes the hotel itself is being torn down early next year, but the condo%26#39;s around it (Coconut Grove and the Bay Villas) will remain. It will be replaced with about 150 units of individual or fractional ownership and the Marriott Vacation Club will have several timeshare units. They don%26#39;t have any more info yet, and say it will be later this year before they know exactly what is going to be built.

I too was disappointed to hear that, so we looked at alternatives and just stayed at the Kapalua Villas next door and had a fantastic vacation. The Ritz is also incredible and you can still use the beach at Kapalua Bay - mother nature won%26#39;t let them touch that fortunately.

Yes, it%26#39;s true. Kapalua Bay used to be part of the Starwood Vacation but changed hands in February of this year. Demolition is slated for early 2006 but with the way things get done here who knows when they will actually tear it down.

I%26#39;m glad you started this forum, mauilover, and thanks to everyone who answered. I think I%26#39;d better plan to go back for one more sentimental stay before they demolish it. I wonder if they%26#39;re going to keep it open until they start the demolition? I would think the morale would be poor and probably they will let things go (?) if they know it%26#39;s going to be destroyed anyway. But, still, I must see it just one more time. What a shame.... the aloha spirit was so strong there...they treated me like family when I got married. I absolutely loved the place. Nothing stays the same...but some things ought to.

I just got back from Maui June 1, 2005 and I heard the same thing. We stayed at the Ritz Carlton, and the resort employees as well as the Kapaula Shuttle people told us Marriott was tearing the place down in favor of time shares. We actually stayed at the Renaissance (then Kapalua Bay Resort by Starwood) in 2002. We ate breakfast there when we were out last week and the place has not been updated at all. It needed remodeling when we were there in 2002....it is really getting kind of rough around the edges....but I guess if they are tearing it down, why invest in updating it. But I agree, overall a nice place and the nearby beach is awesome. Of course, even if they put up time shares, you can still go to the beach since they are all public on the island.

bump-

I would love to hear more about what the Marriot is planning for Kapalua Bay -

Heartbreaking but true. We were married there in 2000 and are staying there one final time before they take it away. We have incredible pictures from our cliffside, sunset wedding but some of our other gorgeous shots are from inside the KBH and its incredible lobby.

It will be sorely missed by us and we just had to go back on more time. Next Saturday we will be there and I will probably do a little crying.
