Opinions of Ohana Waikiki West

I am staying at this hotel this July/Aug and was curious as to people%26#39;s opinion on the establishment. We have decided to stay there and not at a nicer hotel closer to the beach as we are getting a great deal through a friend so I guess that also means that I can%26#39;t be too fussy! But I would still like to hear people%26#39;s opinions of the newly renovated rooms and whethere the construction work at the Int. Market Place is affecting staying at the hotel.

Any comments appreciated.

Thanks

We quite like this hotel. Were there last July and are going back in three weeks. Yes, it is not on the beach, but it will only take you about 5-10 minutes to get there. As far as we can tell, construction at the IMP has not taken place yet. Looks like they may be holding out until the new year for that.

What we really liked about the Waikiki West was that the rooms with 2 beds or the suites, come with kitchens. There is also a grocery store right across the street. Gave us a chance to have leisurely mornings without having to rush out for breakfasts at restaurants.

The pool is a nice size. It isn%26#39;t heated, but who needs a heated pool in Hawaii of all places (Some people were complaining about this while we were there. No problem for us though, since the ocean in our part of the world, which we do swim in, is colder than the pool was). The rooms only have showers, so if you are a person who prefers baths, this may not be the place for you.

There are lots of restaurants in the area to choose from; from fast food to very expensive. Just depends what you are in the mood for.

We were quite pleased with the staff and service. We used the tour desk several times and they were always very helpful. The room was always done up. We never had to call because something had not been done.

I honestly can%26#39;t think of any complaints. It certainly isn%26#39;t the Hilton, but we didn%26#39;t pay for the Hilton. We thought it was a great family hotel (we are mom, dad and 2 girls - 10 %26amp; 12).

If you have any more specific questions, don%26#39;t hesitate to ask. Hope that you to will be happy with your stay here!

Comoxbox: Hello again, as I whittle away the days to our visit at this hotel, (34 days to go!)...I have another question, since you%26#39;ve stayed there...How late does the pool stay open? We%26#39;ve only visited Disneyland %26amp; World through most of our last 8 years, with Mexico beint our, well my pick, last year, which came as a shock, the pool closed at 8:00pm! At least at Disneyland, most of the pools stayed open really late, (Some all night!)...( We like to end the day unwinding at the pool, rather than in the hotel room!)

Thanks very much for your comments Comoxbox - they are very helpful. And thankfully I am not a bath person so I don%26#39;t mind only having a shower! Hopefully I will be too busy being out and about in Waikiki to have a long bath! We are also more ocean people so I don%26#39;t imagine we will ever really laze aroung the pool....... I am very glad to hear your positive feedback as a few bad comments I had heard had me worried but as you said you don%26#39;t pay for the Hilton so you can%26#39;t expect that so I think some people are just a little bit too unrealistic!

CK1234 - We must arrive on the same day at the Ohana Waikiki West as we are arrivingon the 21st of July. We will be there as my partner is doing the Quiksilver Molokai to Oahu Ocean Paddleboard race which is on the 30th of July. We are coming all the way from Oz so we are very excited and it is the first trip to Hawaii for both of us!

Enjoy your stay

Aussie81: Yes, same time. We arrive on the 20th. I did a LOT of research and am quite happy I booked this hotel. I think it%26#39;ll be fine. Well, I just wanted to wish your partner great luck in the race! I hope you both enjoy your stay as well. It is my son and I%26#39;s first visit as well, so I am really looking forward to this!

CK1234: Just checked with the hubby. He%26#39;s pretty sure the pool closed at 10 PM. To be honest, I never used it. He took the girls down there while I had some peace and quiet in the hotel room. Like Aussie81, I preferred the ocean (which the rest of the family did too). We found the ocean warmer than the pool. We got a kick out of it when people complained about the pool not being heated. Who needs a heated pool when its 90 degrees outside!

I used to stay here every year.... I have since moved to my new favorite the Ohana East.... I would always get a room on the 11th floor facing the ocean and in a way; it%26#39;s an ocean ';view'; room.

I wonder, have they renovated lately? Their decor was getting a little old

Oh, I also enjoy eating at Chili%26#39;s in the lobby of this hotel

Yes, they were right in the middle of room renos last summer - right when Kuhio was being fixed up.

Comoxbox: Thanks again for your reply! Much appreciated! I actually used the Ohana Hotels, ';Live chat'; function and they told me 9:00pm is when the pool closes...which is disappointing to me! I will use the ocean this year! Last year in Mexico, in summer, the pools were unheated and like warm soup to swim in, I could never get refreshed except in our room with air conditioning MAXED! We never even went in the ocean at all (P.V. - seemed like the ocean is here!) It was really painfull! I asked everyone at work about Hawaii, as I hate humidity....responses are mixed, I guess it depends...in Orlando, Florida, in summer I have done fine... I died in Ohio with humidity one summer visiting a friend... I did fine in AZ too, dry heat...but Mexico killed me! I just hope Oahu is not the same! I laughed about the pool not being heated from your reply...sounds good, anything COLD sounds good at this point!

Thanks again....(sitting and hoping Oahu is not like Mexico in the summer!)

Christine

Christine,

I have been to Mexico around April and I%26#39;m not one for needing an umbrella in the sun... (well not yet anyway, ask me in 5 years! haha) -- but I found quickly that I needed that sombrilla in Mexico badly!

I live in the very very humid areas of Philadelphia, PA (ask me about the recent heat wave we%26#39;ve had -- it was oppressive!) ... anyway... I find solace in Hawaii. It%26#39;s warm, with very very little humidity. I recall a couple of years ago I went and there were humid days -- but nothing I have experienced here. It%26#39;s just that the trades were almost non-existant.

I have been to FL as well.... and believe me; Hawaii wins hands-down.

ENJOY it.
