which island to stay on (beach & nighlife)

We are traveling to Hawaii for the Christmas / New Years holiday.

What island/city should we consider? We want a sandy beach on site (want to rent a home) and some nightlife activites for the 21-30 crowd. We will also have a 2 yr old child with us (the main reason for the sandy beach on site).

So far our nightly budget of 400-500 seems to be too cheap for Maui but ok in Kona.

Also, do you know of any rental property companies that I can contact about homes?

More of the island quantitative nightlife is geared in Waikiki-Honolulu than any other place of all the islands to select from.
