Fairmont - Ocean View or Deluxe Ocean View...?

My wife and I are traveling to Maui during the last week of February and are planning to stay at the Fairmont Kea Lani. The option that we have is to stay in the Deluxe Ocean View or the Ocean View. I%26#39;ve called the hotel and they appear to be 100% booked for the time we plan to stay so if we ask for the ocean view there is virtually no chance of getting an upgrade to the deluxe ocean view. Are they really that much different? Is it worth the extra 600+ dollars for the views from the deluxe ocean view? I have both rooms on hold and have to make a decision very soon.

According to the description the rooms are both the same size, but I guess it is just the location in the resort and the floor the room is on that would change the view.

Any comments from someone who has stayed in both room types or has seen each room and knows more about why one is a ';Deluxe'; ocean view and one is just ocean view would help. I would like to spend the difference on some additional nice dinners around Maui or something else that we will want to do. I have seen pictures from someone with a deluxe ocean view and there were trees in front of the room... you could still see the ocean but it hardly qualified as deluxe. I am basing my comparisons on oceanfront and ocean view rooms in the Caribbean so maybe I am expecting too much.

Just returned from the Fairmont. It is a great property. They were completely sold out when we were there and we did not think that property was crowded in any way. It is very spacious with plenty of room at the pools and beach.

The key with the type of room is to make sure it is a renovated room. The ';deluxe'; ocean views tend to overlook the ocean from every room. The ';ocean views'; tend to be views of the ocean from the lanai. We had an ocean view room and loved it.

We had oceanview on our honeymoon and loved it also. Save the money you would spend on the deluxe for something else!
