easiest beach for snorkelling

This has likely been discussed before but what would be considered the easiest beach to snorkel on?

Also, when renting snorkel gear do you get a NEW mouthpiece or one someone else has used?

Black rock right off the Sheriton in Kaanapali is the ';easiest'; IMO.

Never rented snorkel gear before, always bring my own.

Blackrock...Most definately.

In South Maui Ulua is great for beginners and water wimps. You dont have to go far at all to see fish.

Public access is right after The Reinassance, parking lot with bathrooms and showers. Go left on the beach path and it%26#39;s right ther in from of Elua Village condos.

I have to disagree slightly with Black Rock - only because the current can be strong %26amp; visibility can be bad there. I%26#39;m an experieced snorkeler %26amp; scuba diver, and everytime I%26#39;ve been to Black Rock I%26#39;ve been very uncomfortable with the strength of the current %26amp; low viz. However, it is such a popular site I%26#39;m sure I%26#39;ve just had bad luck there. But it is worth noting - it%26#39;s only as good as the conditions allow (but aren%26#39;t all snorkeling sites?) I think Kapalua Beach is very easy. The crescent-shaped beach is beautiful and provides nice swimming/snorkeling opportunities. We like to take our kids there, and there are facilities close by (and we usually enjoy lunch up at the Kapalua Bay Hotel - poolside). If you want really GOOD snorkeling, head about 10 min. north to Honolua Bay. It has a rocky shoreline so it%26#39;s a bit tougher to navigate, but the coral on the right side of the bay is incredible!

We%26#39;ve always just used the snorkel they%26#39;ve given us, but as I grow older I%26#39;ve become a bit more ?aware? of how gross that is. When we got certified (Scuba) we bought our own equipment. If you are grossed out about that mouthpiece, you might want to pick up your own snorkel beforehand. They are inexpensive.

I concur with AZ. The current at Black Rock can be strong. Kapalua is great for beginners. There can be a strong current there too if you go way out, but you don%26#39;t need to to see lots. In South Kihei Kamaole III and Ulua are good beginner spots. Mokeliea is easy too, as long as the waves are low.

I think a more important question than the mouth piece is who peed in that wetsuit you are renting.

Oh gross! Why would you need a wet suit for snorkeling?

I was just being gross I guess.

I don%26#39;t use a wetsuit at all but you sure see a lot of them out there.

AZ; I%26#39;m just the opposite. I have all my own gear but when it come to things similiar to the mouthpiece thing, the older I get, the more inclined I am to say%26#39; Screw it....I made it this far and I ain%26#39;t gonna start worrying now!';.

Hula: You are picking on me - I%26#39;m one of the water wimps you mentioned!!! lol Look out or I will get Bud after you! :o)

You%26#39;ve got a good point there, Pappy.

On the wetsuit issue, too. I was thinking about that last year when renting a 3mm for diving off of Kona. I guess you just can%26#39;t overanalyze it all too much.
