Hi....I recall 2 great places that my friend took me to many years ago, Queen%26#39;s Bath, near Kalapana and Pohoiki. Its my understanding that Kilueau, on one of the eruptions, filled these spots in?
Are there any great spots like those listed above? And, is Kalapana covered over too? As you can problay tell, its been a long time since I was on the Big Island.
Thanks...
Denise
Queen's Bath, Pohoiki....no more?
Hi Denise,
Pohoiki is still there (I am assuming you mean the Ahalanui hot pond area).
However, sadly, Kalapana and the Queen%26#39;s Bath are not. They were covered by lava about 15 years ago.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. :(
Queen's Bath, Pohoiki....no more?
Aloha Denise,
Queen%26#39;s Bath was covered over with lava. The beach also got covered, although the waves are making a new black sand beach as we type.
There is a huge hot pond now. It used to be a private pool in someone%26#39;s back yard, but it is now a County Park and anyone can go there. Drive through Pahoa town and keep going straight when you get out the other side. The road will eventually go past the new hot pond.
A hui hou,
Hotzcatz
