Oahu-Ohana Waikiki Tower - 200 Lewers

this hotel is going to be renovated to a embassy suites I think, when I was there there were signs on some of the hotels that were closed that said if you have a reservation call this number for your relocated room, so I assume they are still taking reservations but once you get there they will stick you in another hotel. Regardless this are should be avoided unitl contruction is over, might try the waikiki circle cheap and ocean views.

I ran into this problem a few weeks ago. Wanted to stay at the Ohana Reef Tower-stayed there on Lewers 2 years ago. Loved the area and the hotel was pretty cool too! Was not able to book there. Phone disc. same thing you ran into. Ended up booking at the Ohana Islander only to find out on this site about 3 weeks before I was to leave that the Beachwalk %26amp; Lewers were under MAJOR construction!

Sorry to tell you yes the hotel you were inquiring about is closed. The only hotels that I could tell were still open on that block of Lewers were the Ohana Islander, and the Imperial Hawaiian. The Denny%26#39;s and McD%26#39;s are still open, across from the Outrigger-(which is still open)but other than that everything is shut down or in the process of being tore down. Major demolitian. I took a few photo%26#39;s. Kind of sad-memories you know?!!!

On the upside I stayed at the Waikiki Beachcomber-had a fabulous stay! Was right next to the IMP which was great. Always something going down in that area of Waikiki as well!

I was very pleased!

If your set on staying there anyway the upside is I can say both times I walked through the area the construction was done by the early evening. The roads were open-though down to one lane.

Hope you have a great vacation wherever you decide to rest your head!

I agree with trappedinmichigan, it is very sad. I just returned from waikiki after a 2 week vacation and it was kind of a shock to see the Lewers street area in that condition. I knew before hand that it was going to be shut down and that most of the hotels would be closed but it still takes you back when you actually see it. I%26#39;ve always stayed in that area ever since I was a kid going with my parents. Every year sometimes twice a year we would stay at the waikiki tower, my favorite hotel in the area. I was down in July of 2004 and stayed at the tower but when I went to book it again for April thats when I heard about all the changes so I booked at the islander waikiki. Closest I could get to my favorite area in waikiki. The islander is a great hotel. Excellent location and great price. Highly recommend to anyone. Just make sure you get a top floor POV. Excellent view. One good thing is that the ABC store across the street from the waikiki tower is still open. That was a nice bonus. Regardless of the new plans for the beach walk and everything they have planned, in most ways its sad to see that little piece of old waikiki be demolished. I%26#39;m sure most of you like me have many fond memories of Lewers street. I%26#39;m 32 yrs old and some of my favorite memories go back Hawaii and Lewers Street. I hope the Ohana Islander remains open. At least we can still keep that little piece of the past if nothing else.

I was there last week and couldn%26#39;t believe how much of Lewer%26#39;s has been demoed. The Tower was a favorite of my family. The lobby has been gutted as well as the Waikiki Broiler and pool area.

When we couldn%26#39;t get into the Tower, we opted for the Beachcomber also. We were very happy with it. The room its self was similar to the tower and the location was nice (though we really like the beach near the Derussey Volleyball courts). I think once the renovation is finished the Tower will be well out of our price range. So I guess the Beachcomber will now become our new hotel of choice.

One of the things that caught my eye was that all of the Ohana and Outrigger signage now has the Fairfield name listed. I guess Fairfield purchased them back in January.

Here%26#39;s a link to a Star Bulletin article which has some of the plans for the renovation listed about half way down.

Is the Islander Coffee House on Lewers across the street from the Ohana Islander still open? Does anyone happen to know? If it has closed have they relocated and where? I have also stayed at the Waikiki Tower everytime in fact you just couldn%26#39;t beat the location.Sorry to see it being changed. It was my favorite Waikiki Hotel and the ICH is my favorite breakfast. I truly hope it will still be around. Thanks to anyone who has any info.

Yes, the Islander Coffee House is closed. I believe it was even closed when I was there in January. That whole side of Lewers is fenced off from Don Ho St to Heluma Rd (now that I think of it both side are, you have to walk on the road in one of the lanes, there are barriers to protect you from the passing cars).

one the hotels is pau now

usually it is a hotel built on ';our birth sands';

so a reverse of the motion INhO IS GOOD!

Bump...

The Ohana Waikiki Tower on Lewers
