Scoring a convertible

Spend all the time and effort to come all the way from the mainland, only to drive in a station wagon? come on.

This is my first time to Maui and I really think if we are going to be driving to Hana and exploring every inch of the island we can, we should be doing it in a convertible.

Expedia is telling me $300-400/week.

Can you help me- is this really what I am going to end up paying? (more than my car payment at home)

When expedia says ~$350, what do you think I can get away with on Priceline?

Or is there a better way to secure a lower priced car than through the big doors?

OR, am I just being a vain gringo howlie landlubber southern californian and should just suck it up to the $100/week economy car line and spend the rest on pink mai tais and coconut cream pies?

Check directly on the websites instead of expedia. How long are you going to be there? If you have an entertainment book or costco car they each will give discounts with rental lots. When I have rented convertibles in Oahu I spent 223 for the week each time. Not sure if it is more money on Maui. Perhaps.

Much more fun going topless!

Try 1) Low-balling @ Priceline; saved a bunch earlier this year,

2) Reserve lowest price @ several places, take local phone #%26#39;s with you %26amp;, while you%26#39;re waiting for bags to show-up, use your cell phone to call and ask what their price is on upgrade,

3) While waiting for bags, start going through ';This Week in...'; etc. for deals.

I got an SUV through priceline for the price of a full size. If you know you definitely want it try it. Low ball, you might be surpised. If you don%26#39;t get it go up just a tiny bit, not what they tell you is the going rate.

Hi Lovely,

Clicked on the Island Rentals Mustang Specials on this page; it%26#39;s for a 1996-2000 model.

We paid $380 including taxes and fees from Hertz last month for a connvertible. They are quite expensive but well worth it. If you sign up for Hertz #1 Club which is free, you get a nice little discount on every car. Alamo usually tends to be the cheapest, but we like hertz. Alamo was about $75-$100 cheaper on average.

We paid $174/week at Dollar first week of June for a Seabring.

Key things:

1) start looking as early as possible 9-10 months

2) use Orbitz to compare prices, but reserve through the individual company website (link through an airline website to save more)

3) keep checking all the time for lower prices, they fluctuate alot, when you find a lower one, book it and cancel the older reservation.

4) don%26#39;t forget last minute deals, sometimes they go very low a couple of days before you will be picking up the car.

We bid on a Conv on Priceline and bid low, we ended up paying 220.00 for the week through Alamo. We had a Sebring for the bigger trunk but you can also get a new Mustang.
