YEAH!
Ladies, have thee a recommendation?
I hear it is sunny and windy. I am not much of an expert in the style of female head accessories.
What kind of hat to buy my girlfriend as a present to...
My wife just loved to use my visor in my convertable in Houston, so the first thing we did in Maui (after checking in) was to go to Lahaina and find a visor of her very own. She got the fun of taking her hubby shopping and I got to buy her something I knew she would like, would fit, and wasn%26#39;t terribly expensive.
Visors (with the velcro closure) are great because they%26#39;re easy to adjust based on wind, easy to take off and put on even if you have long hair as the velcro is jsut so darn accomidating. Add to that you still get to feel the wind in your hair... its a great converable friendly cap.

aloha bo, I%26#39;d advise a colorful baseball cap that%26#39;s adjustible. it can get gusty. I%26#39;ve tried other hats with big brims and they get knocked off immediately by the wind, even with a strap for under the chin. if you want to kick it up a notch, buy her a designer baseball hat (escada, prada, whatever).
bigfish, aloha. the 2 problems I%26#39;ve encountered with the visor are a headache from the tight band around the temples, and sun-fried, tangled hair from the sun %26amp; wind. but, sure, visors are cool.
HI, if your wife is style concious as I am she would probably appreciate a nice brimmed rafia hat. Go to Nordstom.com then go to accessories and click on hats, there is a nice one you can see on line for about $165.00. If that is too expensive and it is, use it for a guide to look for one that%26#39;s less expensive.
I have one and love it, I wear it on the beach, with skirts everything!
Kudos for thinking of her hair!
My number one fashion accessory: hair clip. I keep them clipped on by emergency brake, on my beach chair, on the strap of every purse and tote bag, on the gear shift in DH%26#39;s truck. A hat will protect her skin, but if she wears her hair longer than close cropped, the wind can do a number on it--riding in the convertible or just walking around, especially in central Maui. We have a saying here: you can tell the tourists from the locals by how they react to the wind. Tourists step out of the airport and grab hold of their hats--locals hold on to their skirts! Wheeeeeee!
I prefer visors myself. They won%26#39;t fly away while driving, and won%26#39;t give me the awful ';hathead'; that regular baseball caps do!
Kaiwahine, I agree, a ponytail is a girls best friend on Maui, I pull my back most of the time, then I don%26#39;t have to worry. Visors give me a big old headache.
love hair clips and ponytails. but if I don%26#39;t wear a hat the sun turns my hair a very weird shade of orange after about 1 day. so I wear a ponytail thru a baseball cap in a convertible or on a windy day at the beach. yeah, my hair gets smashed but at least it%26#39;s not fried past the point of return. I%26#39;ve tried applying hair products that protect it from sun - haven%26#39;t found one yet that actually works in hawaii, though!!
I agree with the other local ladies, ponytails and baseball caps work best, practically speaking. A raffia hat is lovely but it won%26#39;t stand a chance in a convertible (plus, it%26#39;s a slightly a more mature look). I don%26#39;t like visors because the top of my head gets too much sun. Another more fashionable alternative might be one of those straw cowboy hats with the string to fasten under her chin. They look cool, and might stay put in the wind with the string. I%26#39;m thinking of buying one, yeehaw.
yes! Those hat look very cool with a bikini, very Sheryl Crowe! My hair is colored so I spray on a leave in conditioner made by Kenra to protect the color and a hat is your best bet for hair protection.
