We%26#39;re so excited to be going to Hawaii in late July. Where do you all of you recommend shopping for high quality, authentic, hand-made Hawaiian crafts.....no junk, or made in Taiwan or China garbage imitations. The real deal stuff is what we are only interested in spending our hard earned money.
Also what are your thoughts on the best shops for aloha apparel....sounds cheesey, but hey, we want to get some more of this soft and comfy clothing from the real deal of Hawaii, not some department store, Tommy Bahama stuff that you can get anywhere!
Thanks for your thoughts!

Where to shop for AUTHENTIC, quality, hand-made Hawaiian...
Some of the farmers markets have on island artists selling their work. I think that would be a good place to start.

I assume you are going to Maui (you WILL love it). There are many shops in Lahina that sell locally made goods and will tell you so if you ask.
As far as aloha wear you can%26#39;t beat Hilo Hatties (two locations on Maui). Almost all the clothes there are Hawaiian made, the lable will tell you.
I found the very best examples of native artwork and crafts to be in the Maui Hands shops in Paia. The shop to your left as soon as you enter the town has some gorgeous jewelry, prints, weavings etc. And there are several more shops on the right as you motor farther up the main road. We bought several wonderful pottery pcs for our ';trip memory'; and I am reminded of Maui and its wonder everytime I glance at them.
The shops in Paia are great. I love the local artwork sold there. Good comment Maui.
Oh yeah Maui...forgot about the shops....thanks for the post.
Thanks ';y%26#39;all'; you%26#39;re the absolute BEST for responding to my question about purchasing authentic, hand-made Hawaiian crafts....I just posted my question only minutes ago and you%26#39;ve already answered. I will most certainly go to EACH of the places you suggested and any further recommendations that will be posted until we leave.
Yes, we are going to Maui and although I have been there before, I have never been there with someone I love, my husband. He has NEVER, ever been to Hawaii on ANY of the islands. This will be the BEST treat EVER for both of us!
Thanks, Bellavita in SC (although we%26#39;re both Northern transplants!)
Bella, I found Maui to be so romantic! I can imagine how excited your husband must be to be experiencing it for the first time! I would wish you a great time now, but hopefully you will visit the forum untill you leave!
Bella....don%26#39;t forget to spend time on the lanai with your husband having a few pu pu%26#39;s and a mai tai chatting as the sun sets....there is not anything on earth that is more romantic than that.
Dear Maui Here I Come: Thanks so much for your kind wishes. This trip will be like the honeymoon we never took because we were married in November and since we are both in education, we could not leave but for the weekend. Then we raised our kids and now it is empty nest time (for us!).
I am checking into the Maui forum all of the time and hope to be able to share my thoughts when we return. I hope to keep in touch with all who have helped me in this trip planning from this forum. I%26#39;ve had a blast reading everyone%26#39;s posts!!!
Do you go every year to Maui/Hawaii? Sounds like you travel there a lot.
BELLA, try www.madeinmaui.com
There is a list of local shops on Maui and some have their websites that you can click on. It shows locally made products from the people of Maui,Hawaii.
Have a fun trip!!! aloha.
