I am really getting excited about this trip! The thing I am thinking about is how to get the most out of this trip without going overboard of planning too much. Some of the things I would like to do on Oahu and Maui:
Take the Circle Island Tour
Ride the canoes at the Hilton Hawaii Village
Take the Road to Hana
Go to the Old Lahaina Luau
See the Haleakla Sunrise
Walk/shop in Lahaina town
Visit the Ioa Needle/Park
Do plenty of swimming/beaching
Even with all of this I feel that I might be missing something. Since I may not be making a trip like this too many times in the near future, I want to get as much out of it as possible without feeling exhausted when we return.
Any suggestions?
Any suggestions on doing a lot but not too much?
ro what length of time are you going to be there. everything on your list is great if you have the time. Your age will determine some of this also. I am over a 1/2 century and tried to do much my first trip.

Since my wife and I are beach ';slugs'; with snorkeling, relaxing by the water or on our lanai, and eating filling up most of our days, it sounds like you have alot planned. Many though do like to experience alot in a short amount of time, especially their first trip, and feel they get the most out of their visit that way. Personally, I would never schedule more than one major activity a day and I would also be aware of cancellation policies for pre-paid activities in case you feel like taking a day off.
That%26#39;s good advice ted regarding plans changing. We like to stay at the beach during the day, sometimes we go to Lahaina for dinner and do our shopping then. Last November we stayed at the beach till 3 and then went up to the winery in the late afternoon, anything that doesn%26#39;t disturb our ';sun time';. Roc it looks as though you have some really good plans and have picked the best of the best.
Length of time - 3 nights in Oahu and 7 nights in Maui. When you look at what I have listed, you%26#39;re actually looking at 4 or 5 solid days of the trip for planned activities and the rest of the 5 - 6 days can be spent doing what I REALLY will enjoy doing...eating, swimming and beaching.
As far as the %26#39;pre paid%26#39; plans, only the Luau is prepaid. I am thinking of booking the Road to Hana before I go to get a better rate with the Tour company and maybe the Warren and Annabelle show too.
Hula and I seem to be on the same wave length when it comes to being laid back on vacation
I%26#39;m sure that there are those who can cram every minute full and thoroughly enjoy it but not us.
Our theory is that there is always next year and, trust me, the touristy stuff will always be there.
By the way, hula, I just got a call from my niece in Sandpoint, ID.
She heard that a tsunami was on the way, they had already evacuated Marysville and Everett and she was concerned for our safety. Ya gotta love the media and rumors!
ROC, sounds like you have it just about right, and besides, when you get there, if you love something more than others, almost everything can be cancelled with notice. The only regret I have is we didnt know about the Slack Key concerts at the Ritz and we missed eating breakfast at the Gazbo! But there is always next year!
Pappy, I am so glad your back. That%26#39;s so funny, gosh we could be underwater any minute now!
