If you get near Suisan over on the Hilo side, they have all the different fresh fish and the prices are reasonable. You can see them at the boat harbor along Hilo Bayfront. Their building has ';Suisan'; written on it in big letters. They used to have the fish auctions there real early every morning, but now they mostly just sell fish from their shop.

Grilled ahi is really tasty!

You can also buy the fresh fish at most of the groceries, my favourite is KTA since they make a point of buying fresh and local produce. They also have a wide variety of different poke (poh-kee) which is marinated seasoned fish, sometimes with vegetables and seaweed.

Yes, you can purchase these 3 fresh kinds of fish at the local market or at the harbor docks when they go for bid auction buying early in the morning. Good signs of fresh fish are: soft %26amp; tender skin %26amp; body, pinkish color or dark red for Ahi, eyes are crystal clear, smell is fresh not fishy. hope this helps...
