Just wanted to send a great BIG thanks to everyone on this forum! We spent an excellent week in Maui (May 28-June4) with the help of all your thorough reviews and recommendations for hotels, activities and resturants. Here is just a quick run down of our action packed week:
-Helicopter Ride (Blue Hawaiian)
-Molokini Snorkel Trip (Maui Dive Shop)
-Road to Hana
-Haleakela ATV Tour
-Drive up to Haleakela summit
-and lots of driving around the island
We exhaused ourselves with so many activities on our first trip to Maui that we have now decided to book another trip in November in order to truly relax in the sun!
Thanks again!!!
Thanks Forum!!!
KAtie: welcome back and so glad you had a great time. Tell me more about the Haleakela ATV tour. Bad hip and can%26#39;t do it on horseback.
Thanks Forum!!!
Hi Katiek - Can you say a little bit about the ATV tour? I%26#39;m considering this on my upcoming trip. Thank you.
Good to hear you had a great trip!
The bad part is that once you start booking trips to Maui, it%26#39;s hard to stop!
Katie, welcome back, and lucky you, another trip in Nov! You wont hardly have time to get ';homesick';! Where did you stay in Maui?
here is the site to check out the atv tours --its the same company that does the zip line and a few other tours

See, people actually do benefit from this forum.
The Haleakela ATV tour was a blast. It was my first time riding one so boyfriend was a little worried about how I was going to handle it. Piece of cake. I tore it up with no hesitation and had a blast!!! We took the 2 hour tour which led us through a ranch with some excellent views of West Maui. They use 4x4 Honda Ranchers (which i%26#39;m told is their top of the line model). I guess Maui ATV uses 2x4%26#39;s and they also put regulators on their quads. The trail was excellent (I would consider it to be a little on the intermediate level) with lots of rocks, branchs and hills to climb up and down. Some of the women on the group were a little suprised to hear that it was going to be nothing like a leisurely Disneyland ride. It%26#39;s dusty, very bumpy, and did I mention dusty. The group of 14 we were in was lead by 3 tour guides; one up front, one who rode up and down the pack to make sure everyone was alright and the 3rd guy drove in a Jeep behind us. They provide you with a helmet and goggles. For $5 you can also rent a jumpsuit which I highly recommend. The trip gets you extremely dusty so wear some clothes that you wouldn%26#39;t mind getting thrashed and don%26#39;t smile with your teeth showing during the ride (unless you enjoy the taste of sweet maui red dirt).
So, I highly recommend Haleakela%26#39;s ATV ride. Everyone walked away ready to buy a quad of their own.
Oh...one last thing...there is a $20 off coupon for 2 riders in one of those Maui magazines you can find at airport or your hotel lobby.
Can children go on the ATV tours? Our son is ten and has been riding dirt bikes since he was 5. I think he and my husband would love it.
MauiHereIcome,
We stayed in Lahaina at the Lahaina Shores Beach Resort. It was nothing fancy but perfect for our budget. It didn%26#39;t matter much to us b/c we rarely spent time in our hotel. Our room was on the 4th floor and no more than 50 feet away from the ocean. We really enjoyed being in walking distance to the downtown scene of Lahaina but we were far enough away to never hear the street noise (perhaps the sound of the waves crashing drowned all the other sounds). There was always something to do or to something to eat close by.
Thanks for your recommendation on Maui Dive Shops snorkel trip. It was the perfect size group, perfect mooring spot and perfect amount of time. I couldn%26#39;t imagine being out their for 5 hours like the other Cattle-marans.
Oh do I miss swimming with the turtles. I think will go look at my snorkeling pics and reminisce.
Hula40,
I can%26#39;t remember if the age limit was 10 or 12. You should probably give them a call and check (808) 661-0288.
