We were going to stay at the Renaissance Ihilani resort but decided that it was too far away from the action.

Sounds from your other post that you will be happiest securing accommodations in Waikiki rather than Honolulu. Use the T.A. ';hotels'; tool to search Waikiki. I was happy at the Outrigger Reef Waikiki in an ocean front.
