just looking at the Oahu Revealed hotel pictures on the web. I don%26#39;t own the book. Does anyone know what hotel is pictured across from the Outrigger Luana on the beach next to the park?

That%26#39;s the Hale Koa, the military resort.

Part of the reason we stayed at the Luana was it%26#39;s proximity to Ft. DeRussy. Even thought the hotel is military, the beach and many of the facilities are not. You can eat at their hamburger stand, the snack stand and the bar by the beach. You can hvae a great BBQ/picnic there, which we did. And the beach there is much wider and less crwoded than the rest of Waikiki. You can even park at their garage- it costs civilians a bit more but it%26#39;s still a bargain- we had a three day pass for $9 a night. The fastest way to the beach is to walk up and through the lobby of the Hale Koa itself.

wow, thanks for the great information. How did you like the Luana? pictures on internet look really nice . We%26#39;re only staying one night to see Pearl Harbor, then on to Maui. THis isn%26#39;t until next year for our 25th anniversary

We liked it very much, but it may be more than you need for one night. You would probably want to stay right onthe beach, like at the Hilton Hawaiian Village or the OUtrigger on the Beach or the Sheraton Manoa.

Too bad you%26#39;re missing so mcuhof Oahu!
