Are the shrimp caught locally or is it to deep of water for that.

I have purchased kauai cane shrimp while in Maui and assumed from the name that they were local to the islands....small, very very good.

I believe there is a warm water shrimp that is caught locally. But as a whole shell fish is not the specialty there, fresh fish is.

Actually the shrimping industry in HI is thriving. Plenty shrimp farms on Kaua`i, some on Big Island too. We have friends who are organic farmers on BI who have moved in shrimp farming this past year.

It%26#39;s just that were I live shell fish is plentiful, and I always think of Maui as being more of a place to eat fish fish.

Hula whats fish fish? THe sea food we get in Seattle is at least 15 days old. I was in the business and what they call freah is anything but. Hawaii is freah. Catch and fillet the same day. Shrimp now that is one sea food I could easy empty the ocean by myself eating thm. Yum Yum
