Anybody have experience in going to Maui from the east coast and adjusting to the 6 hour time difference?

Aloha Acadia,
It%26#39;s not as much of a differential departing from New Mexico, but our experience has ALWAYS been: NO problem upon arrival in Paradise/BIG problem returning back home!
If the above results in cancellation of your trip; please send us your tickets.

LOL, I%26#39;ll take them if she doesn%26#39;t!
You will notice lights on in your condo complex at 3 am cuz all the east coasters are up! We noticed many people out walking in Kihei at 4 and 5 am and it used to be that there were breakfast places open really early.
I wonder how I%26#39;m going to do with this as well.. I%26#39;m in NJ going to Maui in sept.. I generally work in the evenings, so once I get home I%26#39;m usually up until like 1-2:30am EST give or take.. My flight leaves at 7am est and gets in to Maui at like 3pm.. when I come home, I leave at 9pm and get in at like 4pm the follow day.
I don%26#39;t care if I have problems when I get home, but hopefully the difference won%26#39;t bother me when I first get out there...
STEve
we fly from Florida back and forth to Maui all the time. We usually have no problem adjusting when we arrive on Maui. It%26#39;s when we return to Florida, we have a hard time adjusting. It takes us about one week to adjust back to east coast time.
Thanks everyone, sorry the trip won%26#39;t be cancelled. My neice is getting married in Hana or on the south road at Hui Aloha Church. We%26#39;ll be there for 2 weeks total, and I sooo need this vacation. We%26#39;re leaving VT on 6/26, so it%26#39;s less than 2 weeks now!
That%26#39;s true. No problem at all when you are flying from East to West and I had really hard time when I am flying in another direction - I consider myself pretty healthy person and once I got really bad flue flying to the East side of planet on my vacation. Half of it was spoiled. But I have absolutely no worries about flying from East Coast to Hawaii myself (this is my first time as well).
This is what I do to get adjusted to local Hawaiian time basically on the first day. I would take short naps on the flight over to Hawaii then stay awake until about 10PM at night in Hawaii. I would be really tired by 10PM since it is actually 4AM Eastern and I have been awake (not counting naps) for over 20 hours. I would not wake up until 6AM if I do this.
Heading back to East Coast I do pretty much the same thing. I usually take an evening flight out of Hawaii, I would nap a little on the flight, then when I get into NY I just keep busy until my normal sleeping time before going to sleep. No problems falling asleep by then because I have been up for over 24 hours.
This works for me since I really can%26#39;t get good sleep on the flights anyway.
I am glad this topic was brought up. Islandgirl did you say it took a WEEK to get use to east coast time? You are scaring me! I have the same east destination (Florida) as you and didn%26#39;t think it would take that long to adjust. Should I get a couch for work to take naps for that week? : )
Sorry, I meant localgirl...not islandgirl.
